Virlent Group LLC is the official representative of Herding in Ukraine.
Herding Filtertechnik GmbH, Amberg, Germany, is a manufacturer of unique high-tech filter elements made of sintered polyethylene and on their basis high-performance compact filter units.
The pictures show some of the Herding® filter elements.
With some visual similarities to flat filter cartridges with a corrugated surface made of conventional materials, these are fundamentally different technical solutions protected by patents. Within just 40 years of their invention and approximately 30 years from the start of commercial production in a single plant, Herding filters, thanks to their unique properties and reasonable price, have gained absolute recognition and the widest acceptance worldwide for all the most demanding dust separation processes. Today, more than 28,000 Herding filters effectively and reliably protect people and process equipment from dust!
The frame of the filter elements is sintered from polyethylene particles as a single body and is a very rigid and strong self-supporting box structure made of porous material. The outer surface of the filter element housing is treated with a porous PTFE-based material, which forms the filter surface itself, which is extremely resistant to mechanical influences. The chemical resistance of polyethylene and Teflon is well known to everyone. The presented filter elements are designed for operation at temperatures up to 110°C.
Herding also produces filter elements and filters for temperatures up to 450⁰C, but this is a separate topic, as is the filtration of liquids with the same sintered polyethylene filter elements!
The fundamental difference in the dust separation process itself with Herding® filter elements is the absence of depth filtration, which destroys the internal structure of traditional filter media, as is the case, for example, in bag and cassette filters.
The Teflon coating not only separates very fine dust (even less than 0.5 µm), but also remains stable over many years of operation, ensuring a constant hydraulic resistance and therefore energy consumption. In terms of energy efficiency, it should also be noted that a compressed air pressure of 4.5 bar is sufficient to regenerate the filter elements, compared to the 6 bar required for bag filters. The compressed air requirement is also much lower, which also results in lower operating costs.
HERDING filters provide a residual dust content of 0.2 mg/m³ to 1 mg/m³ for the cleaned gas, depending on the dust properties, and are certified as HEPA H11. In many cases, therefore, gas cleaning plants with HERDING filters do not require the use of exhaust pipes and the cleaned air is returned back into the working area. This not only reduces investment costs, but in most cases also saves energy for heating and ventilation of the working area.
In terms of technical and operational characteristics, HERDING filters are far superior to all known bag and cassette filters.
The main advantages of Herding® filter elements compared to filter bags or cassettes are the significantly higher degree of air purification and the incomparably longer service life. Theoretically, depending on the properties of the dust, Herding® filter elements have a life expectancy of 7 to 10 years.
We know the experience of intensive operation of our filters for 15 years without replacement of filter elements! In particular, in Belarus, in Brest, 5 HERDING filters have been working on the enamelling process on the same filter elements for more than thirteen years.
The next important advantage of HERDING filters is their compactness. They are significantly smaller than bag filters. The compactness of plants with Herding® filter elements is a significant advantage, especially when space is limited. In addition, transport and installation costs are naturally significantly reduced.
This is what replacing a bag filter with a Herding filter looks like.
It should also be noted that HERDING filters are easy to assemble and practically maintenance-free. In most cases, the filters are delivered assembled.
In addition, Herding® filter elements are not only not afraid of moisture like filter bags, but can even be washed with water, while retaining their original characteristics. The high durability of the filter elements means that the abrasive properties of the dust to be separated can be disregarded. Even for dust aspiration of artificial corundum (Al2O3), our filters have been operating for many years at a filtration speed of 1.5 m/min.
HERDING filters are successfully used in applications where very fine, sticky or highly abrasive dusts, high humidity, oily and chemically aggressive substances as well as explosive environments are required.
Herding® filters are widely used:
– in the chemical, food, pharmaceutical, paint and varnish, mining, ceramic and cement industries;
– in the energy, metallurgy and foundry industries, in the grinding and polishing of steels and non-ferrous and noble metals, in the manufacture of seamless pipes, springs and wires;
– in the processing of raw materials of vegetable and mineral origin, plastics, rubber and radioactive substances;
– welding and laser cutting of metals;
– in the application of paint coatings, both dry (powder) and wet, and in many other applications where high reliability is required and where the return of clean air or the return of a clean product are important criteria for equipment selection.
It should be noted that the world’s largest manufacturers of laser metal processing equipment such as Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada equip their systems with Herding® filters. Also the largest manufacturers of industrial paint booths such as Gema or Dürr equip their plants with our filters. Our filters are in operation at Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes and BMW, as well as at major engineering companies almost all over the world.
Herding filters are widely used by almost all world leaders in their industries, both in their own production and to complete their technological equipment.
The pictures below show some examples of Herding filters.
The filters for explosive atmospheres are certified according to ATEX requirements.
In our filters for explosive media we use the most reliable equipment from world technology leaders in their fields: ATEX version airlock feeders from DMN GmbH and explosion discharge devices from REMBE GmbH.
We equip our filters with Reitz exhaust fans and use the MP12 controller, which is specially designed on a highly reliable element base, to control the operation of the entire filter plant.
Our equipment is entirely manufactured in Germany. Herding filters are in fact a new class of dust collection equipment and already today fulfil possible future requirements in terms of energy and ecological efficiency. Today we can safely talk about a revolution in dust cleaning, which is comparable to the revolution realised by the invention of the internal combustion engine, which displaced the most advanced steam engines.
